Enlarged prostate glands can cause urinary problems such as frequent and difficult urination, especially at night. Finasteride shrinks the prostate and relieves these symptoms. Side Effects
Although side effects from finasteride are not common, they can occur. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:
- impotence (inability to have or maintain an erection) decreased libido (interest in sex)
- decreased volume of ejaculate (amount of semen)
Precautions
Before taking finasteride,
- tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to finasteride or any other drugs. tell your doctor and pharmacist what prescription and nonprescription medications you are taking, especially cold and allergy medicine, diet aids, and vitamins. tell your doctor if you have or have ever had liver disease, or urinary problems or infection. pregnant women should avoid contact with finasteride. Touching the contents of crushed or broken tablets may harm the fetus.
- if you are having surgery, including dental surgery, tell the doctor or dentist that you are taking finasteride.

Storege
Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom).
